A Cantonese carved ivory figural chess set
Late 19th century
A selection of the prime pieces, including a white King and red Queen mounted on a red velvet covered plinth, together with a carved ivory figural group, modelled playing a board game beneath a chrysanthemum tree, including a relief carved domed covered container, with mother-of-pearl disc fitted to the interior, under a glass dome
The king -- 5 1/8in. (13cm.) high; the pawn -- 2½in. (6.3cm.) high; overall -- 9in. (22.7cm.) high
