Lot Essay

Pissarro stayed at the Hôtel du Cours, Cotignac until 9 July 1937. In a letter to Lady Schuster dated 15 June he wrote, 'At first the weather was so cold and changeable I could do very little work and now it is more settled but so very hot I find work very exhausting. I have two pictures en train I am anxious to finish - as soon as they are we shall make a move for home' (op. cit. p. 29).
