12° (194 x 126mm). Title in red and black. Partly unopened. (Very occasional light spotting.) Original printed pale yellow wrappers with price '3 Fr' on spine; modern half black morocco solander box. Provenance: Mr. Ray (contemporary inscription on front wrapper).

AN EXTREMELY FINE, LARGE, PARTLY UNOPENED, COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION, with the six poems, suppressed only a few weeks after publication. The 200 copies remaining in the warehouse had the offending poems excised. The work was not re-issued until 1861, still without the six poems. Carteret I, pp. 118-123.
