FIRST EDITION. Dalin's Sagan om hästen (The Story of the Horse) is an allegory about Sweden under its various rulers, with the country represented as a horse and the Kings as its owners and riders. 'Its entertaining and engaging effect is based on the contrast between the popularly realistic and burlesque narrative tone and the serious nature of the historical material. Even today it is considered literary entertainment of high class' (Algulin, History of Swedish Literature, Sweden: 1989, pp.40-41).
