2 volumes, large 4° (340 x 270mm). Engraved portrait of the Duke of Gloucester and 95 hand-coloured plates comprising 64 aquatint views by J.C. Stadler, D. Havell, J. Bluck and others after A. Pugin, F. Mackenzie, W. Westall and others, 15 hand-coloured stipple-and-line engraved costume plates, and 16 hand-coloured stipple-and-line engraved portraits of the founders of the various colleges. With half-titles and 4p. subscribers' list. (Some faint offsetting to plates and occasional light spotting of plate margins, light offsetting to text.) Light blue morocco gilt for Sawyer Ltd., gilt arms of the University on covers within interlocking double panel, spines gilt lettered and tooled, gilt edges (extremities a little rubbed).
FINE COPY. Ackermann's impressive depiction of Cambridge and its colleges was first issued in 20 monthly parts, appearing from 1 May 1814 onwards. This copy has bright, early impressions and is complete with the series of 16 founders which were separately published and are not commonly bound in. Abbey Scenery 80; Tooley 4. (2)
