A Qianlong example of the same size and shape as the current vase, also applied with gilt elephant handles, was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 26-27 October 1993, lot 260. Although this example is decorated with panels of landscape scenes instead of a continuous scene around the principal part of the body as seen on the current vase, the overall design of the two vases is very similar. Both vases have the same division of minor bands, and each is decorated with Western-style lotus scrolls on a yellow ground around the neck above a band of turquoise stiff leaves, followed by another floral band interspersed with exotic flower heads around the shoulders. Below the principal registers, both have lotus petals above floral scrolls on a yellow ground around the bases.
Another comparable Qianlong vase was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 27 October 2003, lot 641. This vase, although different in size and shape from the current vase, is decorated with a continuous scene of 'boys at play' around the central register, and also has comparable designs around the neck and base.
