The drawing appears to be an unused version for the illustration that appears on p. [22] in the published edition, which includes a dog seated at the table.
The caricaturist, illustrator and watercolorist, David Levine (b. 1926) had his first caricature published in Esquire in 1958. His work has since been featured regularly in the New York Review of Books since its inception in 1963. He has also worked for the Sunday Times and The New Yorker, and has received numerous awards, including the Gold Medal for Graphics by the American Academy in 1992. A FINE ASSOCIATION.
