Early edition, of this HISTORY OF THE DISCOVERY AND CONQUEST OF THE NEW WORLD. Anghiera, known as Peter Martyr, was the first writer to emphasis the importance of the discovery of America by his countryman Columbus. He was a member of the Council for the Indies at the Court of Chalres V in Madrid, where he was able to obtained first-hand information from Columbus, Cortis, Carbot, Vespucci, Magellan, Vasco de Gama, and other explorers and conquerors.
