[AMERICAN REVOLUTION -- TRENTON & PRINCETON]. FADEN, William, publisher. Plan of the Operations of General Washington against the King's Troops in New Jersey.... [London:] W. Faden, 15 April 1777.

Folio (14½ x 19 in.), engraved map, cartouche at top, Faden's imprint at bottom, finely handcolored in tints of pale green, blue and tan, troop movements and unit locations carefully colored in red for the British, yellow for the Continental forces (neatly laid down).

A highly detailed battle map, issued separately and in Faden's North American Atlas (London, 1777). It embraces an area centered on the Delaware River ("full of ice" the map notes), British posts at Princeton and Trenton and Washington's headquarters at Newtown, Pennsylvania. It depicts Washington's night-time crossing of the ice-bound Delaware to mount successful surprise attacks on British garrisons at Trenton (26 December 1776) and Princeton (3 January 1777). Nebenzahl, Printed Battle Plans of the American Revolution, no.119. Provenance: Kennedy Galleries, old label
