A VERY EARLY EDITION OF THE WORDS AND MUSIC of the song which became the American national anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner." The verses "To Anacreon in Heav'n" were written for the Anacreontic Society's periodic meetings at the famous Crown & Anchor Tavern on Fleet Street) sometime between 1771 and 1776 (Tomlinson's verses, without music (see detailed notes to preceding lot). Very rare, this is only the third recorded copy. RISM S 3709 (citing 1 copy; there is now an additional copy in the British Library).
