Lot Essay

Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843)

Both Thomire and Denière executed several variants of this model, such as those supplied to the Grand Trianon at Versailles in 1837. The bold restrained ornament of these candelabra, however, relates more closely to their work of circa 1815, and it is possible that they dispatched candelabra from a slightly earlier production (H. Ottomeyer/P. Pröschel, et. al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. 1, p. 393, figs. 5.17.12 and 5.17.13).
