Lot Essay

There is a pair of similarly-mounted famille verte vases in the J. Paul Getty Museum (71.D1.50), which are illustrated in F.J.B. Watson and G. Wilson, Mounted Oriental Porcelain in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Mailbu, 1982, no. 2, pp. 24-27).
Interestingly, various almost identically-mounted cache-pots are also known in blue and white porcelain with the same decoration as the present lot, which include a pair sold at Christie's London, 7 December 1989, lot 30, and a further single example was sold at Christie's London, 14 June 1990, lot 24.
