Lot Essay
Although almost certainly of Swedish origin due to the characteristic nature of the chasing and the unusual fan motifs on the bases, these candlesticks possibly derive from a watercolour depicting three candlesticks, which was executed in Paris around 1810 (H. Ottomeyer/P. Pröschel et. al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 326, 5.1.7). Variants of this model were supplied by Claude Galle (d. 1815) to Fontainebleau in 1804, which are illustrated in J.-P. Samoyault, Pendules et bronzes d'ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire, Paris, 1989, p. 175, no. 155.
