FRANCES GUMM ENDORSED CHECK
1936
A Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation "Pay Roll Account" check dated "Apr 15, 1936" made payable to the thirteen year-old "Frances Gumm" (Judy Garland's birth name) in the amount of $199.10; endorsed on the back in black fountain pen ink is "Frances Gumm by" in Judy's childhood hand and then in blue fountain pen ink is "Ethel M. Garland as/Trustee for Frances/Garland" in Judy's mother's hand. Interestingly, Ethel changed her last name to reflect her famous daughter's stage name and on this particular piece, she used part of her daughter's given name (Frances) and part of her stage name (Garland), though Garland never used these two names together professionally.
