Details
JIM MORRISON DOOR
A dilapidated handmade wooden door that once hung on a shack where Jim Morrison lived in Tallahassee, Flordia when he was an undergrad at Florida State University. With numerous layers of paint (the most recent color being a peachy-orange shade), three panels of dirty glass (with one missing altogether), rusted metal hinges, remnant locks and a handle, this piece is now in a state of disrepair, but at one time served its purpose. The current owner was Morrison's landlord in 1962-1963, and he himself salvaged this "door of a Door" for posterity while the rest of the building was being demolished in the 1990s. According to the owner, Morrison lived in this run-down house with a number of other roommates, and because he frequently bounced his rent checks, he was asked to leave. And a good thing that was -- shortly afterwards, Morrison transferred to UCLA where he met Ray Manzarek and formed The Doors.
