Lot Essay

EC: Sometimes I'd be on the road...and had been on the road for maybe a month, and I'd see something and I'd forget that maybe I'd already had [another one at home]...or in the warehouse and I hadn't seen it for a couple of years...and...when we get home and tally it up I've found [I've already got one]... we've got 2 or 3 [instances] where that's happened..

MF: Was it ever a conscious choice to buy something you knew you already had, based on condition?

EC: Trying to find a better model...yes...like a mission.. Half the fun of going on the road, apart from playing music, especially in America, is what you do with your free time...and you go and find a vintage guitar stall and look..nobody knows ..you just might find the most spectacular version [of something]...you're always going to look...

MF: ...the pursuit of the collector.

EC: Exactly.
