This guitar was used by Clapton on the album From The Cradle and like its companion, the same model with different fingerboard inlays, [sold in Crossroads Auction at Christie's New York in June, 1999] for the opening song of the subsequent 1994/5 Nothing But The Blues Tour called Motherless Child. In the TV special From The Cradle which showed the Nothing But The Blues Tour rehearsal at Manhattan Center Studios, 28th September, 1994, this guitar was seen being used by Clapton to rehearse Motherless Child, but it suffers a broken string a little way into the song and gets replaced by its companion. Lot Essay

LD: ...I was always amazed by the length of the [marks] you hammered that [guitar]...on the first night, it was brand new...you had a capo on... and it happened after the first song...Do you remember we had to use a different pick because you kept busting the strings, we had to go to a different material plectrum because the Ernie [Ball] picks would just shred it and bust the high E .

CW: ...This was used on Motherless Child?

EC: Yes, that Barbecue Bob song that was on From The Cradle, the blues album, we went on the road with that. It was the opening song every night for the tour for the whole year. That was this guitar.

LD: It was an amazing start, you'd think there'd be something nice and quiet to start with and then 1-2-3-4..(imitates vigorous playing)

MF: Do you enjoy playing 12 strings?

EC: I love playing them...it's very hard to find a good model. Martins are incredible 12 strings.
