The headstock bearing the logo Fender/JAZZMASTER/WITH SYNCHRONIZED FLOATING TREMOLO/ORIGINAL/OFFSET/Contour/Body/PAT. PENDING, neckplate engraved 32808, neck date 12-58, the body in sunburst finish fitted with two pickups, "rosewood cap" neck with "clay dot" position markers; and original hardshell tweed case with adhesive tape inscribed by Lee Dickson '58 Sunburst/Fender-Jazzmaster #32808

Lot Essay

EC: Beautiful. I had one of these in the Yardbirds, with a tortoiseshell effect scratchplate. It was a nostalgic buy, I got it for the look of the guitar as much as anything.

LD: Yes, Jazzmasters and Jaguars always had that funky look.

EC: Yes, yes...Beautiful shaped body design, just pure.

LD: This one's a particularly nice example. I seem to remember you got it just after the George Harrison Tour in Japan [November/December 1991].

The Yardbirds publicity postcard illustrated here shows Chris Dreja holding what appears to be Clapton's Jazzmaster.
