Vier ruiters in a landscape is a relatively unknown druksel. It has been discovered by Jan Martinet in the 1980s. The first owner, with a strong interest for modern design aquired this druksel from the artist directly. It remained within the family for decades.
In the 1980s Jan Martinet had the opportunity to photograph the piece and to catalogue it in the appendix of his Hot Printing inventory under number HP44-126. The horseriders are seen more than once in Werkman's prints. The theme is vividly pictured in the present lot. With stencil and inkroll Werkman created a scene which is far off the actual situation of a country suffering from occupation.
Vier ruiters in landschap will be included in the database of the Werkman Archief, Groningen.
