Patek Philippe bagan making wristwatches around the turn of the last century. The present lot is a very good example of what many early wristwatches looked like. Designed for military use, these watches frequently had either screwed or wire lugs and large Arabic numerals for easy timetelling. Still, these early watches featured design elements closely associated with pocketwatches, such as cuvettes, hinged backs and wolf's tooth windings in the movements.
