With high quality nickel-finished lever movement, jewelled through the hammers, bimetallic compensation balance, the two trains wound in tandem, five minute repeating on two gongs, gold cuvette with engine turned band, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer Arabic minutes track, four subsidiary dials indicating lunar calendar combined with phases of the moon, month, date, and alarm combined with days of the week, fine blued steel hands, the substantial circular case with with stylized blue, red and white enamel initials to the hinged back, fluted bezels to the front and back, unsigned, case stamped by the casemaker

Lot Essay

It is understood that this watch was purchsed direct from the Great Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of 1876, by a prominent Northwestern business man. It remained in the family and was passed down through the generations until it was sold in 1996.
