Lot Essay

Tonneau-shaped single-button chronographs by Cartier rarely appear at auction. It would seem as if the design of this watch was referred to directly when Cartier designed the Tortue watch in the 1990s.

Similar examples of tonneau-shaped single-button chronograph wristwatches are illustrated in Le Temps de Cartier by Jader Barracca, Giampiero Negretti and Franco Nencini, pp. 164-165.
