TWO SAN JUAN POLYCHROME POTTERY JARS
the first, with flat base and carinated body, decorated on the shoulder with a frieze of typical geometric motifs, carved in shallow relief and painted in white and red on a natural buff ground, with polished red rim and underbody, signed on the base Helen Cruz, San Juan Pueblo, inscribed on the base, XSJ-22-P and 1941.340; the second, with rounded body tapering slightly inward to a wide neck, decorated with an incised angular design, painted in white and red on a lightly polished buff slip, with polished red rim and underbody, inscribed on the base, XSJ-9-P and 1933.165
