According to information that the first owner of the work received from Bruno Liljefors himself in 1937, the present work was painted during the time the artist lived in Dannemora, but after a sketch he made during his celebrated Mörkö period. Liljefors himself apparently chose this one painting to represent his work at the Carnegie exhibition in 1933 and subsequently advised the present owner's father to purchase it from Fritzes when it was returned to Sweden in 1934.
