The Oval centrepiece six ball feet, the detachable fluted canopy supported on six acanthus capped baluster columns with acanthus scroll capitals, with fluted borders and husk rim, fitted with central partly fluted detachable basket pierced with foiate scrolls, the canopy with figure of Victory finial on tapering plinth, the base engraved with presentation inscription and a coat-of-arms, the basket engraved twice with two crests, marked on base, frame, canopy and basket, the basket stand, finial and finial plinth unmarked, the octagonal mirror-plateau on four claw-and-ball feet and with husk border, with wood back

The inscription reads 'The Gift OF John Phillipps Carpenter Esqr TO HIS GODSON, Owen William Salusbury-Trelawny Esqr 1809.'

The arms are those of Trelawny quartering Salusbury, for Owen William Salusbury-Trelawny (1808-1830), eldest son of Sir William Lewis Salusbury-Trelawny (1781-1856) and his wife Patience Christian (d.1857), daughter of John Phillipps Carpenter of Mount Tavy, Devon
The eldest son Owen William, died at the age of 22 having attended Christ Church, Oxford.

John Phillipps Carpenter (d.1812) of Mount Tavy, Devon, was the godfather and maternal grandfather of Owen William Salusbury-Trelawny.
