Ruth was a Moabite woman and the great-grandmother of David. The Book of Ruth in the Bible relates how she was married to a Hebrew immigrant in Moab. After his death she travelled to Bethlehem where she was allowed to glean corn in the fields of Boaz, a rich farmer. Even though she was surrounded by young men in the fields she managed to preserve her virtue and so impressed Boaz that he adopted her as a kinsman and eventually married her.
