By repute, this kilim was purchased in 1912 by Mr. Rosenthal's family from the Bernheimer Antiques Gallery in Munich. In 1940, much of the family's possessions, including the kilim, were seized in Paris. In 1946, Mr. Rosenthal returned to Paris and visited the Bureau de Restitution where he was able to reclaim his kilim and other family property. Mr. Rosenthal received the kilim as a gift from his father in 1958.
