embroidered with butterflies worked in Peking Knot, outlined in couched gilt thread, and with peonies and magnolia worked in floss silks, the sleevebands of sky blue silk gauze embroidered with bats and flowers, late 19th century; and a xei pei waistcoat of black silk with integral rank badge to front and back embroidered in silks with a sixth rank Egret, the badges surrounded by birds representing all nine civil ranks, with dragons and phoenixes below worked in couched gilt thead above a sea-wave border, early 20th century, neckline altered (2)
