Provenance
Archibald Orr-Ewing approached the China Inland Mission in 1884 for a post. After arriving in Shanghai in June 1886 he was appointed a post in Kiangsi in 1891. He built schools, sanitoria and homes while living a humble life. This piece is illustrated in the centre of the photograph showing the pieces of Chinese porcelain presented by the Kiangsi Christians on his departure from China.
