A massive pair of Cantonese baluster vases, 19th century
with twin handles each modelled as a mythical lion and its young clutching a brocade ball, the shoulders with applied sinuous dragons, the bodies painted and gilt with large panels of scenes from 'The Water Margin' depicting dignitaries with attendants and entertainers in interior and exterior scenes, smaller similarly decorated panels to the necks, all on a ground of exotic birds and bats amongst scattered fruit and flower sprays, within bands of dragons chasing flaming pearls -- 51¼in. (130.2cm.) high. (2)
