An early 19th-Century lacquered-brass miniature theodolite,
signed on the horizontal circle Watkins, Charing Cross, London, the telescope with bubble level and draw-tube focusing to the eyepiece, raised on two A-frame supports with a vertical semi-circle with silvered scale, with a silvered vernier adjusted by rack and pinion, the glazed compass with a degree scale, eight compass points, edge-bar needle and clamp, the horizontal circle with a silvered scale around the chamfered edge, vernier and rack and pinion adjustment screw beneath, on a tripod mounting with three adjustable screw feet -- 15.2 cm. (6in.) high
