A good 19th-Century French lacquered-brass theodolite,
signed Brunner à Paris, the 35.5cm. long telescope with objective lens dust-cap and rack and pinion focusing to the eyepiece, mounted on a vertical circle with silvered scale, twin magnifiers and opaque glass reflectors, tangent screw fine adjustment, screw clamp and bubble level, held on a cross bar with circular counterweight at the other end, and raised on a tapering brass column, the horizontal circle with silvered scale, twin magnifiers and opaque glass reflectors, tangent screw fine adjustment and screw clamp, the signature faintly legible on the edge of the circle, raised on a thick brass column from a smaller brass circle on a splayed tripod foot with three adjustable screw feet, tangent screw fine adjustment, screw clamp and a threaded recess to the underside for tripod mounting - 32cm. (12 5/8in.) high
