of small size, by Troughton & Simms, London, the telescope with ray-shade with sliding dust-cover and rack and pinion focusing to the objective, a small trough compass mounted on top with blued-steel needle, the split vertical circle with silvered scale, twin magnifiers and verniers, bubble level, clamp and tangent screw fine adjustment, the horizontal circle with enclosed silver scale, verniers A and B, hinged magnifiers, bubble level, tangent screw fine adjustment and clamp, over a tripod mounting incorporating three adjustable screw feet, in a fitted mahogany carrying case with two brass hooks and eyes, a label in the lid for T. Cooke & Sons, South Africa, dated 25/2/14 -- 30.1cm. (11 7/8in.) wide
