LANE'S Pocket GLOBE LONDON 1818, made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours (x2) and minutes, the meridian at 135°W graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in twelve times 1-30° with sigils for the houses of the Zodiac, the oceans showing the antipodes of London, a compass cross in the southern Atlantic and trade winds in the Indian Ocean, with the tracks of various explorers including King, Cook and Anson, the Antarctic with no details shown, the continents shaded and outlined in green, yellow and orange, showing national boundaries in dotted outline, cities and rivers, China showing the Great Wall, Australia labelled NEW HOLLAND with partially projected coastline, Tasmania named Dimens Land, Africa with details such as NEGROLAND, Incognito and Country of the Hottentots, Canada with no northern coastline, with two steel axis pins (some rubbing and small areas of varnish loss, minor discolouration) in a spherical fishskin-covered wooden case lined with two sets of twelve engraved celestial half-gores, coloured green and laid to the celestial poles, the equatorial graduated in degrees, the colures not shown, the ecliptic graduated in twelve times 1-30° with sigils for the houses of the Zodiac, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments, and the stars to various orders of magnitude (hinge detached from one hemisphere, one of three brass hooks and eyes remaining)
