A good 19th-Century lacquered-brass compound monocular microscope,
unsigned, the barrel with draw-tube focusing, arranged to screw into a short arm from the main triangular-section limb up which runs the stage, adjustable via rack and pinion, also bearing sleeves for the concave substage mirror and for the articulated arm for the double-lens bull's-eye condensor, with three eyepieces, three objectives in unmarked canisters, another in a canister engraved Hudson & Son 1in. Greenwich, and a canister containing six lignum rings each stamped with the name of the polarising substance mounted in the centre (Quartz, Topaz, Nitre, Calc-spar, Arragonite, Borax - the last sample missing), with a frog plate and sliding stage attachment, contained in a fitted and blue plush-lined mahogany case, with two brass hooks and nails -- 34.5cm.
