A TREMENDOUS SELECTION OF HISTORICAL VINTAGES FROM ONE OF MARIN COUNTY'S GREATEST COLLECTORS AND CONNOISSEUR'S OF FINE AND RARE WINE
Recently removed from a custom built, cement walled, home cellar containing two internal rooms--one maintaining a constant 50 degrees F for younger wines (mainly 1959-1980s) and a second "cold" room maintaining a high of 44 degrees F during three visits to the cellar for mature wines (1900s-1959); both rooms maintain high humidity as evidenced by many damp soiled labels within the collection.
The following has been assembled over the last 30 plus years and on the whole have lain in this cellar since original purchase. Some older selections were acquired from collector friends of equal cellar reputation or from auctions. At the height of this collection, some 24,000 bottles, this wine aficionado was featured in 1993 on the "Collecting" page of Wine Spectator. Last seen in the pages of a Christie's catalogue in 1999 this collector has decided to return for some necessary scaling down of his long held cellar.
Much of the wine presented here represents selections from a personal and dedicated will to collect vertually every possible fine wine in any given vintage. In fact the trademark of this particular collector is his delighted ability to serve practically anyone his or her birth year with a home cooked meal. Prior to the cataloguing of these wines for sale several selections were sampled from the cellar all were shown to be in immaculate condition. Where representative tasting notes have been provided.
Highlights of the following pages include Ausone 1906, Calon Ségur 1926 in magnum, La Mission Haut Brion 1955, Latour 1926, '28, '29, '34, '45, Margaux 1945, '47, '61, Cheval Blanc 1947, Yquem 1946 & '67, Romanée Conti 1942, '67, '69, '59, '72, La Tâche 1953, '59, '62, '67, '69, '72, Clos de la Roche-Ponsot 1978, and Clos des Lambrays 1941-1950 just to name a few of the incredible red Bordeaux and Burgundy selections.
Further exciting selections are to be found with the 1966/1978 Hermitage and Châteauneuf du Pape and pristine bottles of Guigal Côte Rôtie La La's from the 1970s. Historical golden era vintages from Inglenook, including the legendary 1941, and Beaulieu Vineyards Georges de Latour, including the great 1958 are also included in the following pages. Finally, three Boals round out the collection, one each of 1847, 1856 and 1878.
Christie's and NYWines are honored and privileged to represent such fine wine at auction.
Some selections from this collection will be available to sample prior to the sale. Please inquire with the department for details.
Due to the late inspection of this particular consignment we regret that we're unable to provide illustration of some of the more rare lots. Please contact the Los Angeles Wine Department your additional information.

Dom Pérignon, Rosé--Vintage 1975

Rich reddish/salmon colour. Very nutty bouquet, hint of old strawberry. Very crisp in the mouth; biting acidity, dry, complex; lots nuts, yeast and stewed apples. Crisp dry finish. A very fine effort. May 2001 DW
