The present work, a near manifesto of the very early stages of Suprematism, was drawn in the same year of the landmark 0.10, the 'last Futurist exhibition' that introduced Suprematism to the world. At the core of Puni's artistic vocabulary are the same theoretical concerns of Malevitch, however with a more liberal view toward the representation of the mundane, Puni allowed his compositions greater variety and a more complex level of abstraction. As in the present work, daily reality is subjected to Puni's exquisite and ennobling process of synthesis resulting in a level of classical purity. Very few drawings of Puni's Suprematist phase are known today and the vast majority of those that are are found in museum collections.
