Lot Essay

This work is sold with a photo-certificate from Robert Descharnes, numbered d 3282 and dated Vendredi 27 juin 2003.

La meuniere Frasquita is an illustration for Pedro de Alarcón's Le Tricorne, which was adapted as a ballet by Manuel de Falla in 1958-59.
There is a very similar, earlier rendition of the same subject (executed in 1951), titled La reine des papillons, in the collection of the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, Ludwigshafen.
