The strong hatching and clear outlines of the present drawing closely resemble a Study for the drapery of a reclining figure in the British Museum (N. Turner, Florentine Drawings of the Sixteenth Century, London, 1986, no. 188). The British Museum drawing is connected to the painting of Christ carrying the Cross in the Museo Communale, Arezzo, which can be dated circa 1584. Although the present drawing does not seem to be related to a surviving fresco, very similar figures appear in Pocetti's decorations in the Neri Chapel in the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi, Florence (E. Acanfora, 'Cigoli, Galileo e le prime riflessioni sulla cupola barocca', Paragone, May 2000 (603), pl. 46).
