A study for one of the Virtues painted by Ferrari in the Chapel of San Govanni Battista in the Church of the Gesù (also known as Sant'Ambrosio), Genoa, in about 1738. Drawings for the figures of Faith and Temperance, like the present drawing fully squared for transfer, are also known (E. Gavazza, Lorenzo de Ferrari (1680-1744), Milan, 1965, pp. 101-102, figs. 73 and 74).
