Saint Sylvestre fut pape de 315 à 335, durant le rène de l'Empereur Constantin. Il porte ici la tiare papale et vient de dominer un dragon en effectuant le signe de croix.

Les oeuvres du Maître de Canillo, actif en Andorre et en Catalogne au XVIème siècle furent pour la première fois regroupées par R. Chandler Post, A History of Spanish Painting, Harvard City, 1938, XII, pp. 364-378. Notre tableau fut attribué à ce mare par Jose Gudiol en 1967 (opinion orale).
