Lot Essay

Hendricus Jacobus Levelt was born in Amsterdam in 1808 and lived in this city until 1853. He received lessons from Kasparus Karsen (1810-1896), painting, like his tutor, mostly city scenes. Following some time abroad he settled in Rotterdam in 1863 where he became a lemonade manufacturer.
