A pair of Meissen Hausmalerei chinoiserie two-handled beakers from the 'Hosennestel service'
CIRCA 1731, EACH WITH GILT MONOGRAM FOR SABINA AUFFENWERTH
Painted at Augsburg by Sabina Auffenwerth with Orientals trimming a candle and smoking, tending a brazier and holding a parasol, a sage before a fire with two attendants and a man with a fan seated before a table, an attendant behind him with a draped pole on terraces with fences and flowering plants on elaborate iron-red, purple and gilt diaper-pattern and scroll supports, beneath a band of interlocking scrollwork and flanked by individual gilt chinoiserie figures with censers, a parasol, a fan, birds and wands on taselled supports and beneath canopies, the scroll handles gilt and with indianische Blumen beneath, the interiors with strapwork and the rims with a band of interlocking gilt scrolls, gilt line rims (one with crack to base of one handle and footrim chip, slight rubbing to gilt rims and handles) (2)
