Buckingham House, of which the east façade is shown, was erected in 1703 by John Sheffield, Duke of Buckingham, and in 1761 purchased by King George III for his wife Queen Charlotte. In 1826 George IV commissioned John Nash to transform the original house into a palace and the east wing façade, which faces the The Mall today, was designed by Aston Webb and added in 1913.
