Lot Essay

This elegant serving-table with its removable legs reflects the high quality of furnishings that would have been deemed customary by British Army Officers serving 'under canvas' as camp life was known. A related table with similarly removable legs, but lacking the ingenious storage facility fitted under the top is illustrated in N. Brawer, British Campaign Furniture, New York, 2001, pp. 22-23, figs. 6-8.
