The rectangular panelled back surmounted by a reeded-shaped cresting, the panels with canted rectangular reserves above a solid seat and lion's head monopodia leg, the central panel previously decorated, the underside with chalk inscription 'DELANANZE'

Lot Essay

The banqueting hall seat, with Grecian-scrolled pediment and bacchic lion heads and feet on Egyptian-hermed pilasters, reflects the early l9th century French/antique style promoted by George Smith's Collection of Designs for Household Furntiure and Interior Decoration, 1808.
