The table has herm-tapered legs and an oval medallion top in the elegant George III Roman fashion of the 1770s. Its golden satinwood top displays a scalloped and foliated medallion that derives in part from the ceiling of the Apollo Temple engraved in R.Woods, Ruins of the Temple of Palmyra, 1753. This pattern of poetic medallion features on related tables sold anonyously, Sotheby's London, 26 September 1997, lot 106 and Bonhams, 1 October 2002, lot 105.
