Dr Paul Vogt has confirmed the authenticity of this work.
Painted in 1913 the year that the Die Brücke group finally disbanded, Stehendes Mädchen (Standing Woman) is a mature work that embodies many of the group's key aesthetic aims. Depicting a naked woman standing on the rocky shoreline, the painting probably derives from Heckel's summer visit to the town of Osterholz on the Baltic coast. There during the summer months of 1913 he produced a number of highly important paintings including Gläsener Tag (Day of Glass) (Bayerishe Staatsgalerie Moderner Kunst, Munich) and Frauen am Meer (Women by the Sea) (Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg) which depict the naked figure in the landscape.
