A French gilt-brass striking and repeating carriage clock with porcelain dial, circa 1875
The oval case with Sèvres style porcelain dial painted with a courting rustic couple within heavy gilt borders, the Roman chapter ring centred by a birdcage and with retail signature ROWLAND, blued steel hands, the eight day twin barrel movement with silvered platform to bimetallic balance with lever escapement, with strike/repeat on gong to back plate numbered 1195 -- 6in. (15.2cm.) high to hilt of handle
