The three tier box with drop down side handles and plaque to the front signed THOMAS MERCER LTD./ST ALBANS./ENGLAND, the 9.5cm. diameter silvered dial with Roman chapters and up/down ring at XII, signed Thomas Mercer and numbered 25022 to the centre of the subsidiary seconds ring below, blued steel hands, with further signature along the minute track THOMAS MERCER LTD ST ALBANS. ENGLAND, the chain fusee movement with spot-finished plates, Earnshaw escapement with cut bimetallic balance and cylindrical heat compensation weights, palladium helical balance spring, flat strip steel detent, vacant holes (for electrical contacts?), the bowl numbered 97; later box -- 7½in. (18.5cm.) square, the box; with an associated (larger) guard box
